How Does StemWave Work?

A wave of acoustic sound energy is produced inside the applicator head while it is glided over the patient's area of pain. The wave leaves the applicator head and continues into the damaged tissue. The mechanical input delivered by the pulse wave is registered in our tissues, and the body adapts in a biological/chemical way. This is called Mechanotransduction. Simply put, the mechanical stimulation from the pulse waves creates biochemical changes in the target tissue. There are many biochemical changes that occur, but the main ones of interest are up regulation of immune function, as well as recruitment of mesenchymal stem cells through Toll Like Receptor 3 (TLR3) identification of mRNA release from the cell following the administration of true pulse waves.

What do patients experience during StemWave therapy in Fort Collins CO?

A typical treatment takes 5-10 minutes. During the treatment healthy tissue will respond to the sound wave with no pain. How do we determine who is a good candidate for Shockwave therapy?

During the initial consultation and treatment day we look for two distinct findings in determining if you are a good candidate for this type of therapy. First – we want to be able to find areas of pain with the sound wave. If we can find the pain and inflammation with the sound wave, it is a good sign that StemWave can improve the condition. If we can't find any pain during the treatment, we will not accept the patient for care. Second – we want to see an improvement in the patient's complaints after the first treatment. Most folks report an immediate improvement in their complaint following the first treatment. This could mean reduced pain severity, decreased numbness, improved range of motion, etc. And we can often see the immediate visible changes in the way their body moves. If we can accomplish these two things on Day 1, we can confidently accept the person for care, set realistic goals and offer a rational treatment plan.
